Job Description

We are seeking a Regional Director to lead Norfund’s West Africa mandate from Accra, strengthen our regional investment platform, and represent Norfund with partners, portfolio companies, and stakeholders across the region.

As Regional Director for West Africa, you will be Norfund’s senior representative in the region, responsible for driving investment activity, strengthening strategic partnerships, and ensuring strong regional execution. You will work across Norfund’s investment areas, with particular responsibility for agribusiness and manufacturing, helping identify and support profitable and scalable businesses that create jobs, improve lives, and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

The position reports to the Executive Vice President for Scalable Enterprises and is a member of Norfund’s Extended Management Team. The role combines regional leadership across West Africa and close collaboration with Norfund’s global investment teams.

Based in Accra, you will build and lead a high-performing regional team, oversee regional operations and portfolio development, and contribute to Norfund’s broader strategic direction. The role offers substantial influence over how Norfund grows its investment impact and institutional presence in West Africa.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Build, lead, and develop Norfund’s West Africa team based in Accra.
  • Drive investment origination, business development, and strategic partnerships across Norfund’s priority sectors, identifying profitable opportunities that deliver both commercial returns and development impact.
  • Oversee portfolio performance, responsible ownership, and risk management across the region.
  • Represent Norfund externally and build strong relationships with entrepreneurs, investors, development finance institutions, industrial partners, governments, and other key stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Significant senior leadership experience, including people management responsibility.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience from investments, active ownership, private equity, project finance, M&A, or related fields.
  • Master’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or related field.
  • Experience from one or more of Norfund’s investment areas, including agribusiness and manufacturing, funds, renewable energy, green infrastructure or financial inclusion.
  • Strong commercial and investment acumen, with sound judgment and a proven ability to make decisions in complex environments.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and a structured, detail-oriented approach to managing investments, risks, and operational priorities.
  • Experience leading and developing multicultural teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in French is considered an advantage.

The position is based in Accra. Travel is required.
