Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Mechanical Technician to ensure the continuous and efficient operation of all mechanical systems and plumbing infrastructure across our facilities. This role is critical to maintaining uninterrupted production, preventing equipment failure, and safeguarding poultry operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Mechanical Systems Maintenance

  • Install, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment across poultry houses, feedmill, and processing plants
  • Maintain rotating equipment including bearings, shafts, pulleys, belts, chains, and gearboxes
  • Monitor equipment performance and prevent mechanical wear and failure

2. Poultry House Equipment (Critical Function)

  • Maintain automated feeding systems, drinking systems, and egg collection systems
  • Ensure continuous operation of feed and water delivery systems
  • Quickly resolve blockages, misalignments, and breakdowns

3. Ventilation & Environmental Systems

  • Maintain fans, ventilation systems, cooling pads, and airflow mechanisms
  • Ensure optimal airflow and temperature control to prevent heat stress and poor air quality
  • Collaborate with electrical technicians for integrated system functionality

4. Plumbing & Water Systems

  • Install and maintain pipelines, pumps, borehole systems, and water distribution networks
  • Ensure uninterrupted water supply to poultry houses and processing units
  • Detect and repair leaks, pressure issues, and blockages

5. Feedmill & Processing Equipment Support

  • Maintain mechanical components of feedmill and soybean processing equipment
  • Ensure proper alignment, lubrication, and calibration of machinery
  • Reduce downtime through proactive servicing

6. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintain lubrication schedules
  • Replace worn components proactively and maintain detailed records

7. Emergency Repairs & Downtime Control

  • Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns
  • Diagnose and resolve faults quickly to minimize operational disruptions
  • Implement temporary solutions where necessary to maintain operations

8. Waste & Manure Handling Systems

  • Maintain equipment used for manure collection and waste management
  • Ensure efficient operation to prevent environmental and hygiene issues

9. Collaboration & Technical Support

  • Work closely with the Electrical & Electronic Technician and Facility Manager
  • Support installation of new equipment and system upgrades
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair activities

10. Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety standards and procedures
  • Ensure safe operation of equipment and use of protective gear
  • Maintain clean and safe work environments

11. Spare Parts & Inventory Management

  • Maintain stock of critical spare parts (bearings, belts, chains, pipes, fittings, etc.)
  • Identify essential components and support procurement planning

12. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain records of maintenance activities and repairs
  • Track equipment performance and recurring issues
  • Prepare reports on system reliability, downtime, and maintenance status

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Equipment uptime (%)
  • Number of mechanical failures
  • Response time to breakdowns
  • Preventive maintenance compliance
  • Feed and water system reliability
  • Reduction in mechanical downtime
  • Minimal or zero production losses due to mechanical issues

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 5–8 years’ experience in mechanical systems maintenance
  • Experience in poultry farms, feedmills, or manufacturing environments is an advantage
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting experience

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of industrial mechanical systems and equipment
  • Basic understanding of automation systems is an advantage
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies
  • High attention to detail and strong sense of accountability
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
