Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Head of Poultry Production to lead and manage all poultry operations across the company’s integrated value chain. This role is responsible for ensuring optimal bird health, production efficiency, biosecurity compliance, and operational profitability, while delivering high-quality egg production at scale.

Key Responsibilities

1. Poultry Production Management (End-to-End)

  • Oversee the full poultry lifecycle: day-old chicks (DOCs), brooding, rearing, and layer production
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all production stages
  • Optimize key production metrics including mortality rates, growth performance, and egg production
  • Ensure appropriate housing, ventilation, lighting, and stocking density

2. Bird Health & Veterinary Oversight

  • Establish and manage internal veterinary programs
  • Design and implement vaccination schedules and disease surveillance systems
  • Lead response to disease outbreaks and ensure rapid containment
  • Ensure compliance with animal welfare standards and liaise with veterinary authorities

3. Biosecurity Management

  • Develop and enforce strict biosecurity protocols across all facilities
  • Control farm access, sanitation procedures, and visitor management
  • Implement zoning systems and infection control measures
  • Conduct regular audits and staff training on biosecurity practices

4. Feedmill Integration & Feed Management

  • Collaborate with the feedmill team to develop cost-effective, nutritionally balanced feed formulations
  • Align feed production with bird lifecycle requirements
  • Monitor feed conversion ratio (FCR), quality, and distribution efficiency
  • Provide input into raw material sourcing and cost optimization

5. Egg Production, Handling & Processing

  • Oversee egg collection, grading, storage, packaging, and dispatch
  • Ensure high standards of hygiene and product quality
  • Minimize breakage and post-harvest losses

6. Operational Efficiency & Cost Control

  • Develop and monitor KPIs including FCR, mortality rate, cost per bird, and cost per crate of eggs
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Optimize labor productivity and resource utilization
  • Collaborate with finance to improve operational profitability

7. Farm Infrastructure & Environmental Management

  • Oversee maintenance of poultry houses, water systems, and waste management systems
  • Ensure reliable water supply and backup power systems
  • Integrate manure management with processing operations

8. Compliance, Health & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with livestock regulations, environmental standards, and occupational health and safety requirements
  • Maintain proper documentation for audits and certifications
  • Promote a strong safety culture across operations

9. Data Management & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of production, health, and feed consumption
  • Prepare weekly and monthly performance reports
  • Utilize data to drive operational improvements and decision-making

10. Team Leadership & Capacity Building

  • Recruit, train, and supervise farm staff and technical teams
  • Build a high-performing, disciplined workforce
  • Provide ongoing training in animal handling, biosecurity, and best practices
  • Foster a results-driven culture focused on productivity and quality

  • Egg production rate (% lay)
  • Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR)
  • Mortality rate (DOC to layer stage)
  • Cost per crate of eggs
  • Feed cost efficiency
  • Biosecurity compliance rate
  • Disease incidence and response time
  • Staff productivity and operational efficiency

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in poultry operations
  • Proven experience managing large-scale automated layer systems or integrated poultry farms
  • Strong knowledge of poultry nutrition, disease control, and commercial egg production
