Job Description
The Channel Sales Manager (Junior) – Hypermarkets is responsible for managing and growing the sale of Akoma products across assigned hypermarkets, supermarkets, pharmacies, fuel station convenience stores, and other organized retail accounts within Accra and Kumasi. The role drives sales growth, product availability, merchandising excellence, and customer satisfaction while supporting the execution of key account strategies. Working closely with the Key Account Manager, the Channel Sales Officer is responsible for developing strong retailer relationships, maximizing sales opportunities, executing promotional activities, and ensuring consistent achievement of commercial objectives across assigned accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure products are consistently available, well-displayed, and positioned according to approved merchandising standards.
- Monitor shelf positioning, product facings, pricing accuracy, stock rotation (FIFO), and product freshness.
- Address out-of-stock situations promptly by coordinating with the warehouse, distribution, and supply chain teams.
- Ensure all point-of-sale materials, promotional displays, and merchandising assets are properly installed, maintained, and compliant with company standards.
- Identify and secure new retail outlets, supermarket chains, convenience stores, pharmacies, and hypermarkets to expand Akoma’s distribution footprint.
- Drive SKU listings and support the successful introduction of new products across assigned retail accounts.
- Develop and implement account development plans to increase sales, product penetration, and market share within assigned outlets.
- Monitor sales performance by account and recommend corrective actions to improve revenue and product movement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with store managers, category managers, branch supervisors, procurement teams, and key retail decision-makers.
- Conduct regular store visits to strengthen customer relationships, review account performance, and resolve operational issues promptly.
- Negotiate favourable product placement, secondary displays, promotional spaces, seasonal displays, and in-store visibility opportunities.
- Ensure excellent customer service and timely resolution of retailer concerns while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely order fulfilment, product deliveries, and replenishment of stock across assigned accounts.
- Follow up on purchase orders and ensure products reach outlets within agreed timelines.
- Maintain accurate sales records, outlet information, customer databases, and account activity reports.
- Support the planning and execution of in-store promotions, product sampling, trade activations, and seasonal campaigns in collaboration with the Marketing and Commercial teams.
- Monitor promotional effectiveness and provide recommendations to improve campaign performance and return on investment.
- Monitor competitor products, pricing, promotions, shelf activities, and new product launches.
- Gather retailer, customer, and consumer feedback to identify sales opportunities, emerging market trends, and product improvement opportunities.
- Prepare accurate daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports, outlet visit reports, account performance reports, and activation summaries for management review.
- Analyse sales trends, product performance, and distribution gaps to support commercial decision-making and business growth.
- Ensure compliance with company sales policies, merchandising standards, trade agreements, and brand guidelines.
- Support the Key Account Manager in executing strategic initiatives for assigned retail accounts and provide regular updates on account performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Coach and provide day-to-day guidance to merchandisers, promoters, or other field support personnel assigned to retail accounts, where applicable.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Sales, Commerce, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4–5 years’ experience in FMCG sales or retail channel management.
- Proven experience managing supermarkets, hypermarket, pharmacy, convenience store, or organized retail accounts.
- Experience in food manufacturing, consumer goods, or retail distribution is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated track record of achieving sales targets, negotiating with retail partners, and growing key customer accounts.

- Valid driver’s license with willingness to travel frequently within assigned territories.
