Job Description

Department: Maintenance

Location: Tema, Ghana

Reports To: Head, HSSE, OPS & Maintenance

Education: B.Sc. Electrical / Instrumentation Engineering

Experience: Minimum 6 Years (Industrial)

Job Purpose

To supervise and coordinate all electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical maintenance activities at Tema Oil Terminal to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of storage tanks, transfer systems, loading racks, and related equipment.

The role maintains regulatory compliance, minimizes downtime, and upholds petroleum handling standards.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Minimum of 6 years’ relevant industrial experience
  • Solid knowledge of electrical systems, automation, PLCs, and instrumentation
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Oil & gas or bulk petroleum storage experience is a strong advantage

Key Competencies & Skills

  • Strong customer service orientation; responsive to internal & external stakeholders
  • Capable of hands-on technical and physical maintenance tasks
  • Knowledge of fire safety systems & emergency response in petroleum environments
  • Available for night shifts, weekends & on-call duties
  • Highly self-motivated; able to prioritize and work with minimal supervision

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities

1. Ensure Equipment Reliability

Supervise preventive & corrective maintenance of electrical, instrumentation & control systems; monitor equipment performance and lifespan.

2. Minimize Downtime

Develop strategies to reduce equipment downtime and restore operations quickly after failures.

3. Energy Management

Monitor energy usage and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.

4. Electrical System Maintenance

Oversee maintenance, inspection, and testing of switchboards, transformers, motors, and power distribution; ensure compliance with safety standards.

5. Instrumentation & Control

Supervise calibration, installation, and upkeep of PLCs, flow meters, sensors, and record calibration data.

6. Safety & Compliance

Enforce safety protocols, conduct regular inspections, and ensure regulatory adherence.

7. Emergency Preparedness

Maintain response plans for electrical/instrumentation failures and train the team on emergency procedures.

8. Team Supervision

Lead and train technicians, assign work, and evaluate team performance.

9. Reporting

Produce maintenance reports and track KPIs to drive reliability improvements.

10. Inventory Management

Manage spare parts stock and coordinate procurement for critical maintenance needs.
