JOB PURPOSE

The Head of Finance is responsible for leading the company’s financial management, reporting, budgeting, compliance, and strategic financial planning functions. The role ensures strong financial governance, operational cost control, and effective financial support to ship repair projects executed in a complex industrial environment.

The position plays a key role in supporting operational efficiency, profitability, cash flow management, and business growth while ensuring compliance with statutory and corporate requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with applicable accounting standards and statutory requirements
  • Manage the general ledger, reconciliations, and financial controls
  • Monitor financial performance and provide analysis and recommendations to management
  • Oversee external audits and coordinate responses to audit findings

Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans
  • Monitor project and operational costs across mechanical, steel, piping, and painting activities
  • Analyse variances and implement corrective actions where required
  • Support project teams with cost tracking, budgeting, and profitability analysis
  • Ensure effective cost control measures are implemented across all departments

Cash Flow & Treasury Management

  • Manage company cash flow, banking relationships, and liquidity requirements
  • Monitor receivables, payables, and working capital performance
  • Ensure timely invoicing and follow-up of customer payments
  • Oversee payroll processing and payment approvals

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with tax, labour, regulatory, and statutory requirements in Ghana
  • Maintain strong internal controls and financial governance processes
  • Oversee procurement financial controls and approval processes
  • Ensure proper management of insurance, contracts, and financial risk exposure

Strategic & Operational Support

  • Provide financial insights to support operational and strategic decision-making
  • Support tender pricing, contract reviews, and commercial evaluations
  • Participate in business planning and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to risk management and business sustainability planning

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop the finance and administration team
  • Establish clear performance expectations and development plans
  • Promote accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the department

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • Professional qualifications such as ACCA, ICA, CIMA, or CPA are required
  • Minimum of 8–10 years’ finance experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role
  • Experience in ship repair, marine, engineering, manufacturing, construction, or heavy industrial operations is highly preferred
  • Strong understanding of project costing and industrial operational finance
  • Experience managing audits, taxation, and statutory compliance
  • Proficiency in accounting and ERP systems as well as advanced Microsoft Excel skills
