About ASERD Ghana

Aid for Socio-Economic and Rural Development (ASERD Ghana) is a Ghanaian non-governmental organization established in 2015 and formally registered in 2018. The organization operates primarily in the Northern and Savannah Regions of Ghana, implementing integrated, community-driven development initiatives that improve the livelihoods of vulnerable populations, particularly women and youth.

ASERD Ghana works across biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, ecosystem restoration, and livelihood development. Through donor-funded programmes, the organization promotes nature-based enterprises such as agroforestry, beekeeping, and climate-smart agriculture to support resilient and sustainable rural communities.

Position Summary

ASERD Ghana is seeking a qualified and passionate Project Officer – Biodiversity & Green Jobs to support the design, coordination, and implementation of biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihood interventions.

The successful candidate will provide technical and operational support in delivering donor-funded projects focused on ecosystem restoration, natural resource management, climate resilience, and green livelihood development. The role requires close collaboration with rural communities, stakeholders, and project teams to ensure impactful and sustainable programme delivery.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Implementation

  • Support the design and operational planning of biodiversity and environmental projects.
  • Develop workplans, implementation schedules, logical frameworks, and project budgets.
  • Coordinate day-to-day implementation of project activities in line with approved plans and donor requirements.
  • Apply adaptive management approaches to address implementation challenges and improve project outcomes.
  • Integrate ecosystem-based and climate-responsive approaches into project activities.

2. Biodiversity Conservation & Natural Resource Management

  • Implement community-based biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration initiatives.
  • Support natural resource governance systems such as community forestry and participatory conservation models (CREMAs).
  • Facilitate biodiversity monitoring, environmental assessments, and data collection activities.
  • Promote sustainable land-use practices and interventions that reduce environmental degradation and deforestation.

3. Green Livelihood Development

  • Design and implement nature-based livelihood programmes including:
    • Agroforestry
    • Apiculture (beekeeping)
    • Climate-smart agriculture
  • Provide technical training and support to beneficiaries on sustainable production systems and green enterprise development.
  • Strengthen value chains and market access for biodiversity-friendly products.
  • Promote livelihood diversification to reduce dependence on unsustainable natural resource exploitation.

4. Community Engagement & Capacity Building

  • Mobilize communities, traditional authorities, women groups, and youth groups to participate actively in project activities.
  • Organize training workshops, awareness campaigns, and sensitization programmes on biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.
  • Strengthen community ownership and sustainability of project interventions.
  • Promote environmental stewardship and behavioral change through continuous engagement.

5. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL)

  • Support the implementation of project MEAL systems and reporting frameworks.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring visits to track project progress and quality delivery.
  • Collect, analyze, and manage project data for evidence-based decision-making.
  • Contribute to donor reports, technical reports, and documentation of lessons learned and best practices.

6. Stakeholder Coordination & Partnerships

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with:
    • Government institutions
    • NGOs and CSOs
    • Development partners
    • Community-based organizations
  • Participate in technical working groups, stakeholder meetings, and policy dialogue platforms.
  • Represent ASERD Ghana in relevant environmental and development forums.

7. Financial & Administrative Support

  • Support project budget monitoring, expenditure tracking, and financial accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements, organizational policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with procurement, logistics coordination, and administrative support activities.
  • Maintain proper project documentation and audit-ready records.

8. Reporting & Knowledge Management

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation and records.
  • Develop knowledge products including:
    • Case studies
    • Success stories
    • Policy briefs
    • Communication materials
  • Contribute to organizational learning by documenting innovative practices and lessons learned.
  • Support project visibility and communication efforts.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Environmental Science
    • Natural Resource Management
    • Forestry
    • Agriculture
    • Climate Change
    • Development Studies
    • Or a related field
  • A Master’s degree in Environmental Management, Conservation Biology, Sustainable Development, or related disciplines will be an added advantage.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ relevant professional experience in:
    • Biodiversity conservation
    • Environmental project implementation
    • Natural resource management
    • Climate resilience programmes
  • Experience working on donor-funded projects is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience working with rural communities, especially women and youth groups.
  • Experience working in Northern Ghana or similar rural contexts is an advantage.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong understanding of:
    • Biodiversity conservation principles
    • Ecosystem management
    • Community-Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM)
    • Climate change adaptation and nature-based solutions
  • Experience in green livelihood and value chain development.
  • Knowledge of MEAL systems, data collection, and reporting.
  • Ability to develop project workplans, budgets, and technical reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of digital data collection tools such as KoboToolbox or ODK is an advantage.
