About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Compliance Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that the company’s business operations, products, and services comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
The Compliance Officer will support regulatory compliance, financial crime prevention, corporate governance, data privacy, and legal risk management while fostering a strong culture of integrity, accountability, and ethical business practices across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Governance
- Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and assess their impact on the business.
- Advise management on compliance obligations and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Ensure company operations, products, and services comply with applicable financial services, payment systems, AML/CFT, and data protection regulations.
- Maintain the company’s compliance register and oversee regulatory filings, licensing requirements, permit renewals, and statutory submissions.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of governance frameworks and internal compliance controls.
Anti-Money Laundering (AML/CFT) Compliance
- Implement and maintain the organization’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) programme.
- Conduct Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Business (KYB) due diligence procedures.
- Monitor transactions for suspicious or unusual activities and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Prepare and submit Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Support the Anti-Money Laundering Reporting Officer (AMLRO) in fulfilling regulatory obligations.
Risk Management & Compliance Monitoring
- Develop, review, and update compliance policies, procedures, and internal control frameworks.
- Conduct compliance risk assessments across business units.
- Prepare compliance reports, dashboards, and management updates.
- Monitor adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support compliance audits and regulatory inspections.
Data Protection & Privacy
- Ensure compliance with applicable data protection and privacy legislation.
- Promote privacy-by-design principles across products and operational processes.
- Support data breach investigations, reporting, and regulatory notification requirements.
- Advise departments on data governance and privacy best practices.
Legal & Contract Management
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, vendor agreements, service agreements, and partnership contracts.
- Identify legal and compliance risks within contractual arrangements and recommend mitigation measures.
- Provide legal and regulatory guidance on new products, partnerships, and business expansion initiatives.
- Liaise with external legal counsel and regulatory advisors where necessary.
Compliance Investigations & Ethics
- Support investigations into compliance breaches and regulatory incidents.
- Maintain compliance incident registers and monitor corrective and preventive actions.
- Assist in administering the company’s whistleblower programme and reporting channels.
- Promote a strong culture of ethics, accountability, and regulatory compliance throughout the organization.
Training & Awareness
- Develop and facilitate compliance awareness programmes covering:
- Anti-Money Laundering (AML/CFT)
- Data Protection & Privacy
- Code of Conduct
- Business Ethics
- Regulatory Compliance
- Promote continuous compliance education across all departments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Risk Management, Compliance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Professional certifications in Compliance, AML, Risk Management, or Corporate Governance will be an added advantage.
- Familiarity with legal, compliance, governance, risk management, or regulatory affairs through previous employment, internship, or practical experience.
- Knowledge of corporate governance frameworks and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Experience within FinTech, Financial Services, Technology, Telecommunications, or Digital Payments will be considered an advantage.
