ABOUT WAGCOL

West Africa & Gulf Company Limited (WAGCOL) is seeking a proactive, hardworking and detail-oriented Warehouse Assistant to join our team in Accra.

We are looking for an individual with practical experience in warehousing, logistics, inventory control, order fulfilment and general warehouse operations. The successful candidate will support the efficient movement, storage and distribution of goods while ensuring that warehouse activities are carried out safely, accurately and in accordance with established procedures.

The ideal candidate should be physically fit, organised, reliable and capable of working effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Warehouse Assistant will support the day-to-day operations of the warehouse, including receiving, unloading, storing, picking, packing, dispatching and tracking goods and materials.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Warehouse Manager, logistics personnel, suppliers, drivers and other internal teams to maintain accurate inventory records, ensure timely order fulfilment and support the smooth flow of goods across the supply chain.

Candidates with experience coordinating warehouse teams, training staff and monitoring performance will be well positioned to contribute to the role’s operational and supervisory responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Receiving and Unloading

  • Receive incoming goods, materials and supplies from suppliers and delivery vehicles.
  • Assist with loading and unloading goods safely and efficiently.
  • Verify delivered items against purchase orders, delivery notes and other relevant documents.
  • Inspect goods for damage, shortages, incorrect quantities or discrepancies.
  • Report damaged or missing items to the Warehouse Manager.
  • Ensure received goods are properly documented and directed to the appropriate storage areas.

2. Inventory and Stock Control

  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records and stock movement documentation.
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages, excess stock or discrepancies.
  • Participate in regular stocktaking and inventory reconciliation exercises.
  • Ensure goods are properly labelled, organised and stored.
  • Support the implementation of effective stock control procedures.
  • Help minimise stock losses, damage, wastage and misplacement.
  • Ensure inventory records are updated promptly following receipts, issues and dispatches.

3. Order Fulfilment and Dispatch

  • Pick, pack and prepare goods accurately according to customer or internal orders.
  • Verify product descriptions, quantities and specifications before dispatch.
  • Ensure orders are properly packaged, labelled and documented.
  • Coordinate with drivers and logistics personnel to facilitate timely deliveries.
  • Assist in loading goods for transportation while ensuring safe handling.
  • Maintain accurate dispatch records and report any order discrepancies.
  • Support the timely and accurate fulfilment of customer and operational requirements.

4. Shipping and Loading

  • Assist with preparing goods for shipment and distribution.
  • Ensure items are securely packed and loaded to minimise damage during transportation.
  • Verify shipment quantities against dispatch documentation.
  • Coordinate with drivers and relevant teams regarding delivery schedules.
  • Ensure loading and unloading activities follow established safety procedures.
  • Report delays, damages or other shipment-related issues promptly.

5. Warehouse Organisation and Housekeeping

  • Maintain a clean, orderly and well-organised warehouse environment.
  • Ensure goods are stored in designated locations for easy identification and retrieval.
  • Assist with arranging warehouse layouts to improve space utilisation and workflow.
  • Keep aisles, loading areas and emergency exits clear.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of different categories of goods.
  • Support the implementation of effective warehouse organisation systems.

6. Equipment Operation and Maintenance

  • Assist in the safe operation of warehouse equipment and handling tools, where trained and authorised.
  • Conduct basic checks on equipment before use.
  • Report damaged, defective or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Ensure warehouse tools and equipment are stored appropriately after use.
  • Follow established operating procedures and safety requirements.
  • Support routine warehouse maintenance activities.

7. Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Comply with all warehouse health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
  • Follow safe lifting, handling, stacking and storage practices.
  • Identify and report workplace hazards, accidents and unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure goods are handled and stored in a manner that prevents damage and injury.
  • Maintain awareness of emergency procedures and warehouse safety standards.

8. Team Coordination and Performance Support

  • Work collaboratively with warehouse staff, drivers, logistics personnel and other departments.
  • Support the Warehouse Manager in coordinating daily activities and operational priorities.
  • Assist in guiding and training warehouse personnel where required.
  • Help communicate work schedules, task assignments and operational instructions.
  • Encourage teamwork, accountability and adherence to warehouse procedures.
  • Support the monitoring of team performance and the achievement of operational targets.

9. Reporting and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of stock receipts, transfers, issues and dispatches.
  • Assist in preparing inventory and warehouse activity reports.
  • Ensure delivery notes, stock sheets and other documents are properly filed.
  • Report operational challenges, stock discrepancies and delays to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Support the accurate and timely flow of warehouse information.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A Degree, Diploma or HND in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Distribution, Operations Management or a related field.
  • At least 2–3 years of relevant experience in warehousing, logistics, inventory management or distribution operations.
  • Practical knowledge of receiving, unloading, storage, picking, packing and dispatching goods.
  • Experience in inventory control, stocktaking and warehouse documentation.
  • Good understanding of shipping, loading and order fulfilment processes.
  • Familiarity with warehouse equipment and safe handling procedures.
  • Experience working with warehouse teams and supporting daily operational activities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisational, numerical and record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet operational deadlines.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with inventory management systems will be an advantage.

Additional Advantage: A valid driver’s licence will be an added advantage.
