Project Background
Green for Change Ghana, in partnership with Erda Illumine Low Carbon Solutions Private Limited (EILCS) and the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA), is implementing an innovative Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) Carbon Project across selected irrigation schemes in Ghana.
The project seeks to:
- Reduce methane emissions from rice cultivation through improved water management practices.
- Promote climate-smart and regenerative rice farming techniques.
- Improve soil organic carbon and overall soil health.
- Strengthen farmer livelihoods and agricultural productivity.
- Generate verified carbon credits through internationally recognized carbon standards.
- Deploy digital Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems.
- Contribute to Ghana’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) towards climate change mitigation.
To support successful implementation, GCG is seeking experienced and highly motivated Regional Project Coordinators to coordinate project activities within designated regions.
Position Summary
The Regional Project Coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination, supervision, and implementation of project activities within the assigned region. The successful candidate will work closely with rice farmers, Water User Associations (WUAs), GIDA officials, district authorities, community leaders, and project partners to ensure effective adoption of Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) practices and other climate-smart agricultural interventions.
The role requires strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, project management, training, monitoring, and reporting skills, as well as the ability to manage field operations and ensure compliance with carbon project standards and certification requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Implementation
- Coordinate and oversee the implementation of all project activities within the assigned region.
- Ensure project activities are delivered according to approved work plans, budgets, timelines, and carbon certification standards.
- Support the adoption and implementation of Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), climate-smart agriculture, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable rice farming practices.
- Facilitate effective project planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting.
Farmer Mobilization & Capacity Building
- Mobilize and engage rice farmers, Water User Associations (WUAs), farmer groups, community leaders, and key stakeholders.
- Organize and facilitate farmer training sessions, field demonstrations, workshops, and learning activities.
- Build the capacity of farmers on sustainable agricultural practices, water management, soil health improvement, and climate-smart farming techniques.
- Promote farmer participation and ownership of project activities.
Monitoring, Data Collection & Carbon Accounting
- Coordinate field data collection and quality assurance processes.
- Monitor project indicators including:
- Soil Organic Carbon (SOC)
- Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Reductions
- Water Use Efficiency
- Crop Yield Performance
- Farm Management Practices
- Support the deployment and utilization of digital Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems.
- Facilitate installation, monitoring, and maintenance of AWD tubes, sensors, and other field technologies.
- Ensure accurate and timely data collection to support carbon accounting and verification requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with:
- Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA)
- District Assemblies
- Traditional Authorities
- Farmer Organizations
- Community Leaders
- Development Partners
- Carbon Market Stakeholders
- Represent the project at stakeholder meetings and regional engagements.
- Foster collaboration among project stakeholders to enhance implementation effectiveness.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate project records, databases, and field documentation.
- Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports.
- Document project achievements, success stories, lessons learned, and implementation challenges.
- Ensure compliance with project reporting requirements and donor expectations.
Compliance, Verification & Risk Management
- Support project validation, verification, and carbon auditing processes.
- Prepare documentation required by project partners, validators, auditors, and certification bodies.

- Monitor staff performance and provide technical guidance.
- Ensure quality implementation of field activities and achievement of project objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Agriculture
- Agronomy
- Environmental Science
- Natural Resource Management
- Climate Change
- Agricultural Engineering
- Rural Development
- Or a related discipline
- A Master’s Degree in a relevant field will be a strong advantage.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of Five (5) years’ relevant experience in:
- Agricultural Development
- Climate Change Projects
- Rural Development Programs
- Natural Resource Management
- Environmental Sustainability Initiatives
- Experience working with:
- Farmer Groups
- Agricultural Cooperatives
- Irrigation Schemes
- Community-Based Development Projects
Preferred Experience

Travel Requirements
This position requires extensive travel within assigned project communities and irrigation schemes across the designated region.
