Job Description

The Head of Finance is responsible for leading the financial strategy, planning, and operations The role ensures financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, effective treasury management, and strong oversight of the leasing and loan portfolio, while providing strategic support to the Managing Director to drive growth and profitability.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Serve as the principal financial advisor to the Managing Director. 
  • Translate business strategy into financial plans, budgets, and forecasts. 
  • Support the MD in strategic decision-making, including expansion, product pricing, and funding structures. 
  • Provide financial modelling for leasing products, asset financing, and investment opportunities. 

Loan Book & Portfolio Oversight

  • Provide financial oversight of the company’s loan and leasing portfolio performance. 
  • Monitor key metrics such as Portfolio at Risk (PAR), Non-Performing Loans (NPL), and yield. 
  • Ensure adequate provisioning in line with IFRS and regulatory guidelines. 
  • Work closely with Credit and Operations to strengthen collections and recoveries. 
  • Work closely with Credit and Risk for the appraisal clients’ requests.

Financial Reporting & Control

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Ensure full compliance with IFRS and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain strong internal controls across all financial processes.
  • Produce management accounts with clear insights into profitability by product, branch, and customer segment.
  • Prepare and submit monthly prudential returns to BOG online.
  • Prepare and submit other reports required by BOG.

Regulatory Compliance & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Ensure compliance with requirements of the Bank of Ghana and other regulators.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of statutory reporting, tax filings, and regulatory returns.
  • Act as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax authorities, and regulators.
  • Ensure adherence to all corporate governance standards.

Treasury & Funding Management

  • Manage liquidity, cash flow, and working capital to support lending and leasing operations.
  • Develop and implement funding strategies, including bank facilities and investor relationships.
  • Monitor cost of funds and optimize funding mix for profitability.
  • Oversee disbursement planning aligned with available liquidity.

Budgeting, Cost Management & Performance Monitoring

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic performance reviews.
  • Track financial performance against budgets and strategic targets.
  • Drive cost discipline and operational efficiency across the company.
  • Establish and monitor financial KPIs aligned with business goals.

Systems, Processes & Controls

  • Oversee finance systems (e.g., Odoo ERP) to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Strengthen financial processes, controls, and reporting frameworks.
  • Drive automation initiatives within finance and related functions.
  • Ensure data integrity and proper documentation across all financial transactions.

Team Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-performing finance team.
  • Set clear objectives, KPIs, and development plans for team members.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement

Competency Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline 
  • Professional qualification (ACCA, ICA, CPA) – mandatory 
  • MBA or Master’s in Finance – an advantage 
  • Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience, with at least 5 years in a senior finance leadership role
  • Strong experience in finance, leasing, banking, or microfinance sectors in Ghana

Technical

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, taxation, and financial regulations in Ghana 
  • Deep understanding of lending, leasing, and asset financing models 
  • Experience managing loan portfolios and credit risk metrics 
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (preferably Odoo) and advanced Excel 
  • Excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills
