Job Description
Role Overview
We are seeking a Head of Finance to establish, lead and run GOGIP’s finance function
The role plays a critical part in maintaining the financial health of the Pool and supporting informed decision-making by management and the board, it requires a hands-on, practice financial professional who exercises sound financial judgment and is comfortable building fit-for-purpose finance structures in an evolving environment
This is a build-and-run role, requiring initiative, accountability and the ability to identify issues early and drive practical solutions through to resolution
Key Responsibilities
Finance and Control
•Establish and manage GOGIP’s finance function, including systems, controls and reporting processes in line with board-approved policies
•Oversee cash flow management, banking relationships and investment activities
•Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure effective internal controls
Financial Reporting
•Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts for management and the Board
•Support preparation of annual financial statements and coordinate with external auditors
•Provide clear financial analysis to support decision-making
Tax and Regulatory Compliance
•Manage tax compliance, including VAT, withholding taxes, PAYE and statutory filings
•Act as the primary point of contact with Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)
•Ensure compliance with National Insurance Commission (NIC) requirements
Budgeting and Planning
•Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting
•Monitor performance against budget and explain variances
•Support management with forward-looking financial insights
•Develop and maintain long-term financial plans and capital requirements
Risk Management and Controls
•Ensure effective internal controls and financial governance frameworks
•Identify and manage financial risks, including oversight of investment and asset management
Operational Support / Admin
•Support the operational setup of GOGIP LBG, including asset and liability transition and finance-based aspects of underwriting and premium settlement
•Take ownership of finance deliverables from planning through execution, ensuring timely completion and resolution of issues
•Identify issues early and propose practical solutions without waiting for instruction
•Oversee administrative functions, including coordination of HR-related activities, policies and staff support where required
Stakeholder Engagement
•Engage professionally with banks, auditors, regulators, consultants and member companies while representing GOGIP’s interest
•Provide clear and well-structured financial input to support management and board decision making

Qualification Required & Experience
•A University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics or a related discipline
•Professional accounting qualification (ICAG, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
•8 to 12 years relevant experience in finance, accounting or financial management
•Strong knowledge of financial control, reporting, taxation (including VAT) and statutory compliance
•Strong proficiency in financial systems, reporting tools and Microsoft Excel
Desirable
•Experience in insurance, reinsurance, financial services or a regulated environment
•Experience setting up or strengthening a finance function
•Prior engagement with regulators or statutory bodies
