Position Summary

The Chief Driver is a senior-level role responsible for supervising all company drivers, ensuring strict adherence to traffic regulations and safety standards, coordinating fleet dispatch operations, and serving as the primary driver for executive management. This position combines advanced driving expertise with strong leadership, supervisory, and administrative capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Driver Supervision & Management

  • Supervise and coordinate all company drivers (pool and assigned vehicles)
  • Schedule driver assignments and manage duty rotations
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, and professional conduct
  • Conduct performance evaluations and recommend corrective or disciplinary action where necessary
  • Serve as liaison between drivers and the Fleet Manager

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with traffic laws and company policies
  • Conduct regular safety briefings and driver training sessions
  • Review driver logbooks, mileage records, and trip reports
  • Investigate traffic incidents and accidents and submit reports
  • Verify that all drivers maintain valid licenses and required certifications
  • Promote defensive driving and safe driving culture

Vehicle Operations

  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Report maintenance issues and vehicle defects promptly
  • Ensure vehicles are clean, serviced, and roadworthy
  • Monitor fuel usage and report discrepancies
  • Support dispatch coordination and scheduling

Training & Development

  • Train newly recruited drivers on company policies and operational standards
  • Conduct defensive driving and road safety training
  • Mentor junior drivers and promote continuous improvement
  • Share best practices to enhance driving performance and safety awareness

Executive Driving Duties

  • Serve as the primary driver to the Managing Director/CEO
  • Ensure safe, punctual, and professional transportation
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times
  • Plan optimal routes considering traffic patterns and schedules

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain driver files and documentation
  • Prepare driver performance and incident reports
  • Track violations, complaints, and accident records
  • Assist the Fleet Manager with scheduling and logistics planning

Qualifications & Requirements

Licensing & Legal Requirements

  • Valid Ghana Driver’s License (Class B or higher)
  • Clean driving record (no major violations within the past three years)
  • Police clearance certificate

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional driving experience
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Experience driving executives or VIPs is an advantage
  • Strong knowledge of Accra roads and Ghana’s highway network

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving
  • Good vision (corrected or uncorrected)
  • Physical fitness to handle emergency situations
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
