Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, passionate, and results-driven educational professional to join our institution as an Assistant Academic Head. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator and academic leader who is committed to academic excellence, continuous improvement, and learner success.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the Academic Head in managing academic programs, enhancing teaching and learning standards, mentoring teachers, and ensuring the delivery of a high-quality educational experience for all learners.

Role Purpose

The Assistant Academic Head will support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of academic activities within the school. The role involves providing instructional leadership, supervising teaching staff, monitoring learner performance, supporting curriculum delivery, and ensuring that academic standards and policies are effectively implemented.

The successful candidate will be expected to foster a culture of excellence, innovation, accountability, and continuous learning while inspiring both teachers and students to achieve their highest potential.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership

  • Support the Academic Head in developing and implementing academic policies, procedures, and improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in the coordination and supervision of teaching and learning activities across the school.
  • Ensure effective implementation of the approved curriculum and academic programs.
  • Promote a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement.

Teacher Supervision and Development

  • Monitor teacher performance and provide professional guidance and support.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to improve instructional effectiveness.
  • Support the planning and delivery of professional development programs for teachers.
  • Mentor and coach teachers to enhance teaching quality and student outcomes.

Curriculum Management

  • Support curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation processes.
  • Ensure lesson plans, schemes of learning, assessments, and instructional materials meet required standards.
  • Monitor curriculum coverage and provide recommendations for improvement.

Student Academic Performance

  • Analyze learner performance data and recommend strategies to improve academic achievement.
  • Monitor assessment practices and ensure consistency in grading and evaluation standards.
  • Coordinate interventions for learners requiring academic support.
  • Promote learner engagement, discipline, and academic excellence.

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with institutional academic standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support internal academic audits and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing academic reports and performance reviews.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and school leadership to support learner success.
  • Participate in parent meetings, academic review sessions, and school events.
  • Foster positive relationships with all stakeholders within the school community.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of academic calendars, timetables, reports, and school documentation.
  • Support examination planning, coordination, and administration.
  • Perform other academic and administrative duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field.
  • A Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum Studies, or a related discipline will be an added advantage.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience in a reputable educational institution.
  • Previous experience in an academic leadership, supervisory, or coordination role will be highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve learner outcomes and support teacher development.
