Project Context

The Accountant will support the implementation of the “EU for a Secure Ghana – Specific Objective 3” project, funded by the European Union. The initiative focuses on strengthening peacebuilding and violence-prevention mechanisms among key stakeholders, including state institutions, civil society organizations, and vulnerable communities.

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to support financial operations by ensuring accurate bookkeeping, compliance with donor requirements, and effective financial reporting. The role is critical to maintaining transparency, accountability, and efficiency in project financial management.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Maintain accurate financial records in accounting systems and spreadsheets
  • Process and verify invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports
  • Prepare and execute payments to vendors and service providers
  • Manage petty cash and monitor expenditures
  • Support statutory declarations including tax and social security obligations

Compliance & Control

  • Reconcile bank accounts, petty cash, and financial records
  • Review partner and CSO expense reports for compliance with donor guidelines
  • Ensure financial documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready
  • Support compliance with Ghanaian tax and regulatory requirements

Reporting & Audit Support

  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Support donor reporting requirements and financial statements
  • Compile documentation for audits and donor reviews
  • Assist during internal and external audit processes

Administrative Support

  • Provide general administrative support to the finance team (filing, scanning, documentation)
  • Collaborate with program, logistics, and administrative teams for financial tracking

Other Duties

  • Perform additional tasks as required to support project implementation

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Professional certification (part qualification in ICA, ACCA, or CIMA) is an advantage
  • Minimum of 5–10 years’ experience in accounting or finance roles
  • Experience in NGO or donor-funded project environments is preferred
  • Knowledge of EU-funded project financial procedures is a strong advantage
  • Experience in grant management and micro-grants is desirable

Technical Skills

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (essential)
  • Knowledge of financial processes including reconciliations and compliance
  • Familiarity with financial systems such as Odoo is an advantage
  • Excellent record-keeping and reporting skills
