The purpose of this role is to implement a Safety Management System that will promote a healthy and safe working environment for employees (including contractors) and visitors and for ensuring compliance to all relevant standards and legislation. This role will work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to establish and maintain a safety culture based on effective training, injury prevention and continuous improvement. The role holder will act as a Risk Assessor for the various departments on site and provide support in relation to all Safety Systems and procedures moving from Construction into Operations..
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Liaise with various Sectional Heads to plan for and facilitate incident investigations, risk assessments and fatal risk management actions.
• Monitor and report on incident trends to aid OHS program direction.
• Providing support to various units on the existing safety systems that govern work practices and risk control processes.
• Develop and implement training programs to improve safety culture, knowledge and skills across the mine.
• Assist in management of Health and Safety related pages and relevant information on the OHS department intranet site and contribute to other departmental communications.
• Assist with planning and coordination of internal and external audits to verify compliance and effectiveness.
• Demonstrate Safety Leadership and improve the safety culture across the OHS Systems and Capacity Building Unit.
• Ensure timely submission of regulatory and other reports to ensure compliance.
• Effectively monitor, track and report on mine leading indicator performance to relevant stakeholders
• Assist with the implementation of OHS programs mine wide.
• Ensure all OHS related document are controlled and reviewed per site document management procedure.
Qualification Required & Experience
• Must have a Degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences or similar qualification from a recognised institution.
• Must have either ISO 45001 Internal or Lead Auditor’s Certification.
• Must have ISO 3100 Risk Management.
• Must have a certification in incident investigation methodologies such as IIP, Taproot, etc.
• Health and Safety Certificate of Competency from Minerals Commission of Ghana will be an advantage.
• Must have competency or certificate in Process Safety.
• Must have accredited certification in Safety Management, (e.g. NEBOSH, etc.).
Experience
• Must have at least 5 years working experience with exposure to mining regulations.
• Must have an in-depth understanding and working knowledge in implementation of Safety Management Systems requirements.
• Must have experience working with safety systems such as iSIMS, Forwood, Evotix Assure, etc.
• Must have knowledge in driving on a mine and compliance to traffic management rules.
• Experienced in facilitating incident investigations.
• Ability to work effectively with people, including high performing professional team.
