Purpose of the Role:
The Mechanical Engineer provides technical leadership to ensure high reliability, safety, and efficiency of all
mechanical assets within packaging operations.
The role focuses on asset lifecycle management, continuous improvement, people capability development, and
delivery of engineering excellence aligned with production, quality, and cost objectives.
Key Accountabilities:
- Commit to Occupational Health and Safety standards. Frequently state and articulate that Safety is our
No.1 priority. Be visible as an ambassador for safety by always behaving in a safe manner and always
challenging unsafe practices and behavior of others, reprimanding where appropriate. Adhere strictly to
the packaging health and safety rules and systems and equipment operational procedures. - Safely and proactively operate, troubleshoot, to optimize productivity.
- Provide technical ownership for high-speed packaging equipment including fillers, cappers/crowners,
seamers, labelers, packers, palletizers, depalletizers, and conveyor systems. - Lead reliability engineering strategies to improve asset availability, MTBF, and lifecycle cost.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for major breakdowns and ensure sustainable corrective actions.
- Act as senior escalation points for complex mechanical issues impacting production.
- Drive continuous improvement in OEE, throughput, waste reduction, and changeover efficiency.
- Partner with Production and Quality teams to ensure stable, compliant packaging operations.
- Coach and mentor Mechanical Engineers and Technicians, building strong technical capability.
- Lead skills development, training programs, and succession planning within the mechanical discipline.
- Own and standardize technical documentation, SOPs, and maintenance standards.
Key Requirements – Qualifications, Experience, Skills etc.: - Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree is an advantage)
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in high-speed manufacturing, preferably beverage or FMCG packaging.
- Proven leadership in maintenance, reliability engineering, and capital project delivery.
- Strong exposure to OEM packaging equipment (e.g., Krones, KHS, Sidel etc.)
- Advanced mechanical systems knowledge (rotating equipment, pneumatics, hydraulics)
- Reliability engineering tools (RCA, FMEA, RCM)
- CMMS and maintenance planning systems
- Lean, TPM, and continuous improvement methodologies
- Food safety and quality systems knowledge
- Oversee receipt of finished goods and empty bottles from packaging, loading trucks per invoice/transporter,
and maintain accurate documentation for all transactions. - Ensure adherence to DRP by optimizing warehouse space and offloading docks and achieving 100%
compliance with transport loading/offloading plans. - On-call support as required
