About the Role

3PL Ghana is seeking a proactive, experienced, and safety-conscious Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Officer to join its Operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining effective Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs that promote a safe working environment while ensuring full compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

This role supports safety initiatives across production, distribution, and office operations and plays a key role in fostering a culture of workplace safety and continuous improvement.

Purpose of the Role

The Health, Safety and Environmental Officer will implement occupational health, safety, and environmental management systems designed to ensure a safe workplace, minimize operational risks, and maintain compliance with all relevant legislation and company standards.

The successful candidate will work closely with operational teams to integrate safety into everyday business activities and promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environmental Management

  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve the organization’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable occupational health, safety, and environmental legislation, regulations, and company standards.
  • Promote best practices in workplace safety across production, distribution, warehouse, and office operations.

Risk Assessment & Compliance

  • Conduct workplace risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend appropriate control measures.
  • Carry out regular workplace inspections and safety audits to ensure compliance with HSE standards.
  • Monitor compliance with statutory requirements and internal safety procedures.
  • Recommend corrective and preventive actions to eliminate or minimize workplace risks.

Incident Investigation & Reporting

  • Lead investigations into workplace accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • Prepare comprehensive incident investigation reports.
  • Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, investigations, and safety performance metrics.

Safety Improvement Initiatives

  • Recommend and implement continuous improvement initiatives that enhance workplace safety and operational efficiency.
  • Promote employee awareness through safety campaigns, toolbox talks, and awareness programs.
  • Foster a strong safety culture through coaching, employee engagement, and leadership support.

Documentation & Record Management

  • Maintain accurate HSE documentation including:
    • Safety reports
    • Inspection records
    • Permits
    • Incident reports
    • Compliance documentation
    • Risk assessments
  • Ensure all HSE records are properly maintained and readily available for audits and regulatory inspections.

Operational Support

  • Collaborate with operational departments to integrate HSE requirements into daily work activities and projects.
  • Provide professional guidance on workplace safety matters.
  • Support emergency preparedness planning and response activities.
  • Participate in safety meetings and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Engineering
    • Occupational Health & Safety
    • Environmental Science
    • Or any related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant professional experience in Health, Safety and Environmental Management.
  • Previous experience within manufacturing, production, logistics, distribution, or industrial operations will be an added advantage.

Professional Certifications

Candidates with any of the following certifications will have an added advantage:

  • NEBOSH
  • ISO Health & Safety Certifications
  • CSP
  • OSHA
  • Or any other recognized Health, Safety and Environmental certification.

Required Skills & Competencies

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety principles.
  • Familiarity with preventive safety measures and emergency response procedures.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and report-writing abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to conduct workplace inspections and safety audits.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to influence and promote a positive safety culture.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
