Job Description

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education & Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Finance, Risk Management, Economics, or related field
  • Banking or financial services qualifications an advantage

Experience Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in Finance, Risk Management, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in credit risk oversight , risk governance and related regulatory role.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk models, scoring systems, and regulatory requirements.
  • Comprehensive understanding of credit risk measurement, modeling, and management
  • Experience in policy development and regulatory reporting


Technical Knowledge:

  • Basel III/IV Accord – Capital adequacy, ICAAP, stress testing requirements
  • BOG Regulations – Credit risk guidelines, supervisory expectations, reporting requirements
  • Risk appetite frameworks and tolerance setting methodologies

Leadership & Communication Skills:

  • Proven ability to provide effective challenge to senior management and business lines
  • Experience presenting to Board-level committees and regulatory authorities
  • Strong stakeholder management across internal and external parties
  • Excellence in written and verbal communication with ability to explain complex risk concepts
  • Team leadership and development capabilities

KEY RESULT AREAS

 GOVERNANCE AND INDEPENDENT OVERSIGHT (40%)

  • Establish and maintain independent credit risk oversight function in accordance with three lines of defense model
  • Provide effective challenge to credit risk management decisions and business line activities
  • Ensure proper segregation of duties between risk governance and risk management functions
  • Chair credit risk governance committees and provide independent risk opinions
  • Monitor compliance with risk appetite and tolerance levels across all credit portfolios

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE AND POLICY FRAMEWORK (30%)

  • Develop, maintain, and review credit risk policies aligned with BOG regulations and Basel Accord principles
  • Ensure compliance with all Bank of Ghana credit risk supervisory requirements and guidelines
  • Manage regulatory relationships and serve as primary contact for credit risk supervisory matters
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports including ICAAP, stress testing, and periodic risk assessments
  • Lead regulatory examinations, manage findings, and ensure timely remediation.

BOARD AND SENIOR MANAGEMENT REPORTING (20%)

  • Prepare independent credit risk reports monthly to Credit Committee and quarterly for Board Risk Committee
  • Present quarterly risk assessments and portfolio reviews to CRO and senior management
  • Provide risk opinions on strategic initiatives, new products, and major credit exposures
  • Escalate material risk concerns and policy breaches to appropriate governance levels
  • Maintain comprehensive credit risk dashboard and key credit risk indicators for Board consumption

FRAMEWORK DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION (10%)

  • Design and implement governance structures, processes, and control frameworks for the unit.
  • Oversee stress testing governance including scenario development and validation
  • Review and validate credit risk methodologies, models, and rating systems
  • Establish risk taxonomy, classification systems, and measurement standards
  • Monitor industry best practices and regulatory developments for framework enhancements

  • Ensuring secure handling of sensitive credit risk data and regulatory information
  • Adherence to data privacy regulations and internal data governance policies
  • Implementing appropriate access controls for risk management systems
  • Maintaining data integrity and ensuring accurate regulatory reporting
  • Protecting confidentiality of Board-level risk discussions and regulatory communications
