Job Purpose
The Fleet Manager is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the organization’s fleet of vehicles and heavy-duty equipment. This role ensures optimal fleet availability, regulatory compliance, safety standards, asset protection, and cost efficiency to effectively support organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fleet Operations Management
- Oversee the daily operations of all company vehicles, trucks, and equipment.
- Ensure fleet availability aligns with operational requirements.
- Develop and implement effective fleet utilization strategies.
- Monitor vehicle performance, fuel consumption, and operational efficiency.
2. Preventive Maintenance & Repairs
- Develop and enforce comprehensive preventive maintenance schedules.
- Ensure timely servicing, repairs, and statutory inspections.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records.
- Coordinate with mechanics, workshops, and external service providers.
- Minimize downtime and ensure optimal equipment reliability.
3. Compliance & Regulatory Management
- Ensure full compliance with transport regulations and safety standards.
- Manage vehicle licensing, insurance, and roadworthiness certifications.
- Enforce occupational health and safety policies related to fleet operations.
4. Cost Control & Budgeting
- Prepare and manage fleet operational budgets.
- Monitor fuel, maintenance, and repair costs to control expenditures.
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety or performance.
- Analyze fleet performance reports and recommend operational improvements.
5. Asset Management
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date fleet asset register.
- Oversee vehicle acquisition, disposal, and replacement cycles.
- Conduct periodic fleet audits.
- Implement and manage vehicle tracking and telematics systems where applicable.
6. Safety & Risk Management
- Develop and enforce driver safety policies and procedures.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, implementing corrective actions as required.
- Conduct driver training sessions and performance evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with defensive driving standards and risk mitigation practices.
7. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare and submit monthly fleet performance reports.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for inspections, servicing, fuel usage, and repairs.
- Provide strategic insights and recommendations to senior management.

- Vehicle and equipment uptime percentage
- Maintenance cost per vehicle
- Fuel efficiency metrics
- Accident and incident rate
- Compliance rate (licenses, insurance, inspections)
- Fleet utilization rate
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification in Fleet Management is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in fleet or transport management.
- Proven experience managing trucks, heavy-duty equipment, or utility vehicles.
- Experience within the construction or logistics industry is preferred.

Working Conditions
