Job Overview
The Credit Officer will be responsible for evaluating loan applications, identifying potential risks, and making informed credit recommendations in line with the institution’s lending policies and regulatory requirements. The role also involves managing the complete loan lifecycle—from application and appraisal to disbursement and monitoring—while maintaining strong relationships with clients to grow and sustain a high-quality loan portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and appraise credit applications, identify associated risks, and provide appropriate lending recommendations.
- Ensure full compliance with internal credit policies, banking regulations, and lending guidelines.
- Manage the end-to-end loan process, including application review, approval support, disbursement, and ongoing monitoring.
- Conduct client assessments and field visits to evaluate business performance and creditworthiness.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to support loan portfolio growth and retention.
- Monitor loan performance and ensure timely repayments while managing potential credit risks.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely credit and portfolio reports to management.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), or equivalent qualification in Banking, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 2–5 years’ experience in credit appraisal, banking operations, loan management, or a similar role.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Excellent customer service and relationship management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to build and manage a quality loan portfolio while mitigating credit risks.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness and ability to conduct field visits for client appraisal, monitoring, and business verification.
