Green for Change Ghana (GCG) is an environmental non-governmental organization committed to working with communities to promote sustainable natural resource management, environmental conservation, and climate resilience—particularly in northern Ghana.
We design and implement practical, community-driven interventions that benefit both people and the environment. Our work focuses on strengthening community capacity to adapt to climate change and other environmental threats while supporting the sustainable management of critical ecological habitats.
GCG’s programs include tree planting and forest landscape restoration, agroforestry, climate adaptation initiatives, renewable energy solutions, and community empowerment projects, all aimed at improving livelihoods for vulnerable populations while safeguarding the environment.
Position Summary
GCG is seeking a passionate and creative Volunteer Communication Officer to support the organization’s communication, visibility, and storytelling efforts. The volunteer will play a key role in documenting field activities, producing engaging multimedia content, managing digital platforms, and amplifying the organization’s impact across online channels.
This role involves regular travel to project communities to capture photos, videos, and stories from the field. It is ideal for a motivated individual seeking hands-on experience while contributing meaningfully to community-based development and environmental action.
Key Responsibilities
- Capture high-quality photographs and videos of project activities, events, and community engagements
- Edit photos and videos for reports, social media, and promotional materials
- Manage and update the organization’s website, including content uploads and basic layout updates
- Create, schedule, and publish content on Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), and YouTube
- Support the development of communication materials such as flyers, posters, short videos, and success stories
- Maintain a well-organized digital archive of photos, videos, and communication materials
- Travel regularly to project communities to document field activities
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Background
- Minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Graphic Design, Information Technology, Development Studies, or a related field
Skills & Competencies
- Strong photography and videography skills
- Basic to intermediate photo and video editing skills
- Ability to design, manage, and update websites (WordPress or similar platforms is an advantage)
- Good working knowledge of Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), and YouTube
- Ability to write clear, engaging captions, stories, and short articles
- Willingness to travel frequently to rural field locations
- Creativity, attention to detail, and a strong sense of storytelling
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Strong passion for environmental conservation, climate action, and community development
Added Advantages
- Previous experience working with NGOs or community-based projects
- Skills in graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
- Basic knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, and documentation
Work Location
- Tamale, with frequent field travel
