Role Summary:

The Business Development Manager, Loans Unit, plays a key role in driving Petra’s retail revenue growth by managing and developing a team of Loan sales advisors focused exclusively on individual customers seeking credit products. This role requires a strong balance of sales leadership, team management, and individual customer relationship development. While the Head of Retail retains the ultimate hiring authority and sets the overall retail strategy and is responsible for budget, the Business Development Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the team, including training, performance monitoring, and driving individual customer loan origination.

Key Responsibilities

A. Business Development & Sales Leadership:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development plan for the loan products, targeting both existing Petra customers and new market segments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the product manager, lending partners, employers, and influential individuals within the Ghanaian business community.
  • Lead and motivate the loan sales team to achieve ambitious sales targets and market share goals.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and training to enhance the team’s sales skills, product knowledge, and negotiation capabilities.
  • Securing and closing high-value loan agreements, acting as a B2B lead generator and big ticket deal closer for the team. This involves identifying and pursuing high-creditworthy top corporate executives and corporate clients, building relationships with key financial decision-makers, structuring complex loan packages, and ultimately closing deals that significantly contribute to overall revenue goals. This leadership by example will be crucial in driving overall team performance and achieving ambitious loan origination targets.

B. Team Management & Development:

  • Onboard, and train new members of the loan sales team.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for development.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and results-oriented team environment.
  • Implement training programs to equip the team with the latest product knowledge, industry best practices, and sales techniques.

C. Market Analysis & Strategy:

  • Conduct thorough market research to identify emerging trends, competitor activities, and untapped market opportunities within the loan segment.
  • Contribute to the development of Petra’s overall retail strategy for loan products, providing insights and recommendations based on market analysis.

D. Reporting & Analysis:

  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), such as loan volume, revenue generated, and market share.
  • Provide regular reports to the Head of Retail on sales performance, market trends, and competitive landscape.
  • Identify areas for improvement and recommend strategies to optimize loan product performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sales management within the financial services industry, with a proven track record of success in leading and motivating teams. 

Other Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related field. 
  • Relevant professional certifications. 
  • Experience working in the Ghanaian financial market.
