Job Summary

UMAA is seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Purchasing Officer to manage and coordinate procurement activities supporting underground mining operations. The role is responsible for ensuring timely sourcing of critical materials, cost optimization, compliance with procurement policies, and effective supplier relationship management.

The successful candidate will also supervise procurement support staff and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the procurement function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end procurement process, including requisition review, sourcing, tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and contract management.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate supply risks.
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues relating to delivery, quality, or service.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including warehouse, engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to understand procurement needs.
  • Participate in supplier audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and ensure readiness for audit and compliance requirements.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop expediting and procurement support staff.
  • Review and authorize purchase orders within delegated authority limits.
  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with organizational policies, legal standards, and ethical practices.
  • Support continuous improvement in procurement processes and ERP system utilization (e.g., SAP, Pronto).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 5–7 years’ procurement experience, with at least 3 years in mining, heavy industry, or a related sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of mining equipment, spare parts, consumables, and service procurement.
  • Proven experience in supplier negotiation, contract management, and procurement planning.
  • Experience using ERP systems such as SAP, Pronto, or similar.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to drive an SUV.
