Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Transport Manager, the post holder is responsible for supervising daily workshop and fleet maintenance. The primary objective is to direct the activities of mechanics, technicians, and supporting staff to keep workflow efficient, minimize vehicle downtime, ensure all repairs meet safety and manufacturer specifications, and maintain a safe working environment.

Job Details

The Transport Workshop Supervisor shall be responsible for:

1. Workshop Planning & Workflow Management

• Schedule, prioritize, and assign repair work orders to technicians based on individual skill levels and expertise.
• Ensure effective workshop planning captures all outstanding vehicle services, inspections (onsite and offsite), and manufacturer recalls/service bulletins.
• Ensure all work is delivered to the required quality standard, within specified timeframes, and without starting work without an official job card.

2. Team Supervision & Technical Leadership

• Provide first-line supervision, technical guidance, and troubleshooting support for mechanics, electricians, and technicians on complex engine and vehicle issues.
• Assist in selecting, training, and evaluating assigned staff; recommend disciplinary actions, handle initial grievances, and support staff development (PDPRs).
• Work directly as part of the workshop team when required to maintain and repair service vehicles, ensuring fleet availability for operational needs.

3. Quality Control & Fleet Maintenance

• Inspect and quality-check all completed maintenance and repair jobs prior to returning vehicles to service.
• Oversee the servicing, maintenance, and repair of all company vehicles, forklifts, pallet trucks, and specialized equipment according to manufacturer specifications and statutory regulations.
• Advise management on the serviceability of vehicles and provide recommendations for unserviceable fleet assets.

4. Safety, Compliance & Environment

• Enforce workplace health and safety (WHS/HSE) rules, maintain workspace cleanliness, and ensure compliance with statutory safety legislation and company policies (including GMP).
• Ensure all vehicle workshop safety procedures, incident reporting, and safety practices are strictly maintained.

5. Inventory, Tools & Equipment Management

• Ensure adequate supply and proper care, storage, and inventory of spare parts, consumables, and specialist tools to minimize vehicle downtime.
• Authorize local vendor purchases for repair materials and ensure all parts are ordered in a timely manner and fully accounted for.

6. Administration & Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of job cards, work orders, service bulletins, and maintenance progress reports.
• Ensure close collaboration with administrative, finance, sales, and store teams to support smooth workshop operations.
• Seek approval from the Transport Manager prior to authorizing overtime or out-of-hours working.

Qualification:

• HND, BTech or B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related technical trade diploma/certificate.
• 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in a technical/mechanical workshop, with a proven background in supervisory or leadership roles.
• Valid Ghanaian driver’s license; minimum Class B.
