As part of our commitment to operational excellence, we are seeking an experienced and proactive Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Officer to strengthen our Health, Safety and Environmental Management System and help foster a strong culture of workplace safety across our manufacturing operations.

Job Summary

The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Officer will be responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving the company’s health, safety, and environmental management systems. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, and sanitation regulations while promoting safe working practices throughout the organization.

Working closely with management and operational teams, the HSE Officer will identify workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments, implement preventive measures, and ensure that employees work within established safety standards. This role requires a highly motivated professional with excellent technical knowledge of occupational health and safety principles within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Implementing and maintaining the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and management systems.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant occupational health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conducting regular workplace inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Performing risk assessments and implementing preventive and corrective measures to minimize workplace incidents.
  • Monitoring adherence to safety procedures, operational guidelines, and environmental standards.
  • Investigating workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses while preparing detailed investigation reports and recommendations.
  • Coordinating emergency preparedness programmes, evacuation drills, and crisis response activities.
  • Organizing health and safety training, inductions, and awareness programmes for employees and contractors.
  • Promoting a strong safety culture by encouraging employee participation in HSE initiatives.
  • Monitoring the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring compliance across all departments.
  • Preparing HSE reports, safety statistics, compliance documentation, and management reports.
  • Liaising with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workplace safety and environmental performance.
  • Ensuring proper waste management and environmental protection practices throughout company operations.
  • Monitoring sanitation standards and ensuring compliance with environmental and workplace hygiene requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Safety, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years’ relevant experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment.
  • Professional certification in Occupational Health and Safety such as NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO 45001, or an equivalent internationally recognized certification will be an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of occupational health, environmental, and industrial safety regulations.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems and workplace compliance standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
