We are currently seeking an experienced and proactive Safety Officer to join our growing team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of construction and engineering projects by promoting workplace safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices.

Position Overview

As a Safety Officer, you will play a critical role in implementing and monitoring the company’s health, safety, and environmental management systems across project sites. You will work closely with project teams to identify workplace hazards, conduct inspections, enforce safety standards, investigate incidents, and foster a culture where safety remains a top priority.

The ideal candidate is passionate about occupational health and safety, possesses strong analytical and communication skills, and is committed to ensuring that every project is executed safely and in compliance with applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and standards across project sites.
  • Conduct routine workplace inspections, safety audits, and compliance assessments.
  • Identify workplace hazards and carry out comprehensive risk assessments.
  • Develop and recommend effective risk mitigation measures.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
  • Monitor compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness training for employees and contractors.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture by encouraging safe work practices and employee engagement.
  • Ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to established safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, reports, and documentation.
  • Support emergency preparedness initiatives and participate in emergency response planning.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to achieve project safety objectives.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve workplace safety performance.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH and/or IOSH (preferred).
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of relevant Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) experience, preferably within the construction, engineering, or mining industries.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting:
    • Risk assessments
    • Safety audits
    • Incident investigations
    • Regulatory compliance inspections
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent report writing and documentation skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
