Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented Accounts Officer to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the organization’s financial records, ensuring accurate accounting processes, supporting financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to maintain financial integrity while supporting effective financial management and operational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records and financial transactions.
  • Process and record receipts, payments, journal entries, and other accounting transactions.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of books of accounts and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain organized filing systems for accounting and financial records.

Financial Reporting & Reconciliation

  • Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
  • Conduct regular reconciliations of bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and other financial records.
  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and financial irregularities promptly.
  • Prepare management reports and financial analyses to support business decision-making.

Cash & Treasury Management

  • Monitor cash inflows and outflows to ensure adequate liquidity management.
  • Support treasury operations and maintain effective cash management processes.
  • Verify supporting documents and ensure all transactions are appropriately authorized before processing.

Accounts Payable & Receivable Management

  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions effectively.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on overdue payments.
  • Process supplier payments and maintain accurate creditor records.

Budgeting & Expense Control

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and identify variances.
  • Support cost control initiatives and expenditure monitoring activities.

Compliance, Audit & Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and submit statutory and regulatory reports within established deadlines.
  • Support internal and external audit exercises by providing accurate financial information and documentation.
  • Ensure strict adherence to internal control procedures and financial policies.

Payroll Administration

  • Assist with payroll processing and the administration of statutory deductions where applicable.
  • Ensure payroll records are accurate and compliant with regulatory requirements.

Operational Support

  • Provide financial guidance and support to branch and operational teams.
  • Perform other finance-related duties and assignments as directed by management.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:

Option 1

  • First Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in:
    • Accounting
    • Finance
    • Banking and Finance
    • Economics
    • Business Administration
    • Or a related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ relevant post-qualification experience.

Option 2

  • WASSCE qualification with specialization in:
    • Accounting
    • Business Studies
    • Economics
    • Mathematics
    • Or a related discipline
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant post-qualification experience.

Professional Qualifications

  • Professional certifications or part qualifications in ACCA, ICA Ghana, CIMA, CA Ghana, or related accounting bodies will be a significant advantage.

Industry Experience

  • Previous experience within the microfinance or financial services industry will be an added advantage.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Proven experience as an Accounts Officer, Accountant, Finance Officer, or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and bookkeeping practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software applications and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Knowledge of Bank of Ghana regulatory requirements will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
