Position Summary

The Relationship Officer will be responsible for sourcing and onboarding clients, promoting the company’s financial products and services, assessing prospective borrowers, managing loan portfolios, and ensuring timely loan repayments. The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact between the company and its clients while maintaining strong customer relationships and portfolio quality.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Client Acquisition

  • Market and promote the company’s loan and financial products to prospective customers.
  • Identify and recruit qualified clients within assigned territories.
  • Conduct field visits, prospecting activities, and community engagement programs.
  • Develop strategies to increase customer acquisition and portfolio growth.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with individuals, groups, and business owners.

Client Education & Onboarding

  • Educate potential clients on available loan products, requirements, repayment terms, and company policies.
  • Guide clients through the loan application process.
  • Assist customers in completing loan application documentation.
  • Conduct client orientation and financial literacy sessions.
  • Ensure all required customer information and supporting documents are collected and verified.

Credit Assessment & Loan Appraisal

  • Conduct client appraisal and eligibility assessments.
  • Perform field verification and due diligence on prospective borrowers.
  • Assess business operations, cash flow, and repayment capacity.
  • Conduct reference checks and background verification.
  • Prepare loan appraisal reports and recommendations for approval.

Portfolio Management

  • Manage and monitor assigned loan portfolios.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients throughout the loan cycle.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and identify potential risks.
  • Ensure accurate client records and loan documentation are maintained.

Loan Recovery & Collections

  • Ensure timely repayment of loans by clients.
  • Follow up on overdue accounts and implement recovery strategies.
  • Conduct client visits and collection activities where necessary.
  • Minimize portfolio-at-risk (PAR) and loan default rates.
  • Escalate delinquent accounts according to company procedures.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Build long-term relationships with clients to encourage repeat business.
  • Address customer concerns and resolve complaints promptly.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain high client satisfaction levels.
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell additional financial products and services.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports.
  • Maintain accurate customer and loan records.
  • Submit loan applications, appraisal reports, and collection reports on time.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • HND, Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Banking and Finance
    • Business Administration
    • Marketing
    • Economics
    • Accounting
    • Entrepreneurship
    • Or a related field

Experience

  • Previous experience in microfinance, banking, sales, customer service, credit administration, or business development is an advantage.
  • Fresh graduates with strong sales and relationship-building abilities may also be considered.
